Title: New Media and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Location: Civic Studios office (Khar, Mumbai, India)

Commitment type: Full-time (with a probation period of 2 months)
Pay: Compensation commensurate with experience


Role Description
We are looking to hire an Associate: New Media and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Civic Studios. You will be responsible for leading the creation and implementation of company strategy on ethical, meaningful AI use in media and entertainment with a goal to safeguard democracy from the threats being posed by AI (such as, rampant mis/dis information, deep fakes, etc.). The role will be in-charge of enabling Civic Studios to adapt to leveraging AI for accelerating social impact and countering AI linked challenges and misuse. The associate shall support the designing of innovative pathways to market entry and scaling in alternative media spaces (for example, kids content, educational/EdTech content, gaming, etc.) and contribute to business development. You will also have the unique opportunity to observe the studios working and growth, and contribute to company strategy (including impact, industry economics, and monetisation). Specific responsibilities associated with the role are broken into 3 broad categories:


AI

  • Knowledge Creation: The Associate shall undertake regular SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis of AI on media and entertainment. Generate evidence to outline the expected disruption and threats to democracy and media in light of AI in the next 6 months to 5 years. You’ll be responsible for staying up to date with the new innovations in the field of AI and their impact on the media space and democracy, freedom.

  • AI Strategy Design: Lead the creation of an evidence-based strategy with a goal to safeguard democracy against challenges arising from misuse of AI in media. This involves identifying pathways to positively leverage AI for creating social impact and strengthening democracy. The role will be responsible for drafting nimble, impactful strategies that enable Civic Studios to use AI for impact innovatively, while also combating the unethical use of AI in the media and entertainment industry.

  • Implementation: Collaborate closely with teams to lead the rapid testing of AI at Civic Studios across verticals. With the fast-paced month-on-month changes to AI, you will be expected to spearhead change through helming prompt in-company implementation and iteration, the motto here is to demo or die.

  • New Media

  • Market Entry and Scaling: The Associate shall support the feasibility assessment to understand potential pathways for entering alternative media markets (for example, kids content, educational content, gaming, etc.). This role will actively contribute to enabling market entry and scaling of Civic Studios’ projects in alternative media spaces.

  • Content Experimentation: Contribute to innovation at Civic Studios through experimenting with the creation, pitching, and monetisation of new media formats such as, podcasts, radio, etc.

  • Business Generation: Measurable generation of new business and sustainable revenue streams. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for business generation across new media platforms. This will include providing evidence and insights to inform decision-making.

  • Company Strategy

  • The Associate shall play the pivotal role of bringing company leadership together for routine strategy review and refinement. For the leadership meetings, you’ll be responsible for the set-up, preparatory work prior to the meeting, and leading the follow-up work post the meeting. The meetings serve as an opportunity to closely observe and contribute to the functioning of a young media house.
  • The role shall contribute to supporting work focussed on maximising impact and revenue of Civic Studios projects.
  • You will also be responsible for studying and questioning existing economic models in the media industry and provide innovative suggestions for improvement to these models.
  • Role Requirement
    We are looking for someone who has/is:

    • A keen interest on working in new media domains and experimenting with AI
    • Proficiency in conducting actionable research and strategic analysis
    • Proven track record in developing and implementing strategies to generate sustainable business
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Passionate about chasing tough questions and doing what it takes to figure-out their answers
    • Prior work experience in media and/or AI innovation is preferred
    • Keen to be part of a fast-paced work environment with a birds-eye’ view to the process ofmcontent creation
    • Ability to innovate, experiment, and adapt
    • Fluent in spoken English and Hindi
